Saturdays are known for being a day or night where people go out and have a good time. But I work Sunday mornings, so I spend most of my Saturdays in my house. What most people don’t realize is I’m usually having just as much – if not more – fun as they are going out. I like to read some fic, usually with a snack and a beverage. So I figured, why not share these things with you? I’m sure there are several of you who prefer to spend your Saturdays the same way I do. Hence “Stay in tonight with … ” was born. I’ll be choosing one fic that is at least 10K words long, and a snack and a beverage inspired by that fic.
HOMEMADE. MCGRIDDLE. This was a lot of work but hoooooly moly was it worth it. I actually went out and bought the grade A dark amber maple syrup that the recipe called for to make the syrup crystals, and I basically drank it from the bottle it was so good. And then I ate a bunch of the syrup crystals after I made them. Seriously, SO GOOD. Anyway, the recipe describes the process of making the crystals pretty precisely, but you should have a thermometer to make sure you’re doing it right. I didn’t have pancake molds, so my pancakes came out a little sloppy, but I think the main point is pouring a little batter, then adding the crystals, then pouring a little more batter on top so that the crystals never touch the pan. I fried an egg and used frozen turkey sausage patties, and I also used regular cheddar cheese instead of American slices. Good god was I glad I put in the effort. The coffee was a little easier, but it totally tasted just like a McCafe mocha. Delicious.
Nouis is about the only pairing I can stomach in this fandom anymore. I started out shipping Liam and Niall, because I always shipped Louis with Harry. Along the line, that changed. This fic sort of mirrors that shift. It’s old (Liam is with Danielle), which is surprising enough. But it also handles Louis’ relationship with Harry and Eleanor much like in my headcanon. It doesn’t minimalize them, which is important.
Wound up w Haz b/c we didnt know how to stop, he writes, then pauses with the tip of his pen to the page. He hopes Niall won’t look over at him – he can’t stop his face from pinching, remembering. Left b/c it got overwhelming and I thought New York would be different. He crosses out different and replaces it with right.
You can tell from the beginning that Niall has some feelings. It takes Louis a while to figure out how many of them are reciprocal. It’s not terribly angsty – it’s actually nice to see how seriously he’s considering his past feelings and what he’s going through now. They’re friends with benefits from the beginning, it’s heavily implied that the entire group had a similar arrangement when they were together, but the intention behind those benefits evolves.
“Jesus Christ.” Niall bursts out laughing. “I literally forgot. You made me forget I was hungry. It must be love.”
“Must be,” Louis agrees, a grin spreading irrepressibly across his face. He rolls over and grabs the room service menu off the other table. They both seem to tacitly agree that there’s no need to address out loud what was just said.
GOD. Can you even?Stay in tonight with hear the wheels as they roll, homemade #McGriddles & McCafe mocha. #Nouis… Click To Tweet
Take the time to make the maple sugar crystals, and when you’re full on fake McD’s lay down and read this fic.
