Every Friday we’ll pick a theme and then five things (hence the name! We’re so original!!!!!) that fit that theme. Feel free to make your own choices in the comments, or send them to us on Twitter. This week we’re talking about the holiday episodes that warm our hearts.
I barely remember the rest of this episode, but Seth coming up with a combo holiday for his parents (but let’s be real mostly to get lots of presents) is my faaaaave. His continuing commitment to Chrismukkah is so great. Ryan’s face when Seth introduces him to Chrismukkah is also SO GREAT.
If you think I didn’t choose this episode solely for the way Steve looks at Grace and Danny, you’d be WRONG. Okay, there are other good things about it – the team going dark side to save one of their own, the return of Victor Hesse, Danny in a Santa suit – but it’s the closing moments of the team dressing up to be there for Danny and Grace’s special Christmas moment that really gets me.
While Leslie’s approach to gift giving would drive me up the wall (sure the gifts are nice and thoughtful but describing it as a competition is not), I do love the gifts she gives in this episode. But the reason this is a favorite is the way her chosen family comes together to make her a meaningful present, and then to support her during a difficult time.
Everything about this episode makes me WEAK. The flashbacks are bad enough (SAMULET ORIGIN STORY ANYONE????), but then at the end you get Sam decorating the tree with air fresheners and giving Dean gas station gifts? FA LA LA LA LAAAAAAAAAAAA Oh, and the story about how Jared poured a LOT of liquor into the eggnog and Dean’s reaction is actually Jensen’s reaction. Wrap it up and slap a bow on it.
